Every Memphian deserves to live in a beautiful and thriving neighborhood. In order to achieve that, we must address the long-term problems of crime and disinvestment which plague many of our neighborhoods. We must not only make sure that all crimes are responded to and investigated thoroughly, but we must also actively prevent crime from occurring by alleviating it root causes. Homelessness, poverty, educational inequity, and economic disinvestment are just a few of the many root causes of the crime that we must address. By doing this, we can build a Memphis where everyone thrives.
Youth Empowerment
Investing in young people is the key to a brighter future. The first step in securing this future is fully funding our public schools. The City of Memphis must once again contribute funding to the Memphis-Shelby County School system. With additional city funding and programming, the school system could better attend to the needs of all students. Furthermore, many young Memphians have innovative ideas and solutions for our city but lack the resources needed to transform their communities. We must invest in strategic summer and after-school youth empowerment programs that unlock our young people's entrepreneurial, artistic, and civic potential. Through these programs, which would include internships and apprenticeships, we can reduce crime and prepare young Memphians for lifetimes of success.
high-quality INFRASTRUCTURE
Our city deserves top-notch infrastructure. Unfortunately, our roads have a reputation for damaging vehicles and public transit options are little to none. One of my top priorities is to improve our infrastructure on all fronts. It's time to fix the potholes, expand the trolley the system and improve the quality of our bus service. I will stand in solidarity with and work alongside the community organizations, MATA employees and everyday Memphians who are demanding change.
I am NOT RUNNING TO JUST BE A VOICE. I AM RUNNING TO BE YOUR VOICE!
Living the life that I have lived, I am used to people "representing" me but never actually getting my input on anything. As I said above, I don't plan on being that type of leader. Send us any problems that are important to you that we didn't cover above! We want to hear from you to bring about new ideas!
